WITH four of their more experienced members in the

first_imgWITH four of their more experienced members in the First Team squad this evening it was always going to be a young and inexperienced side that took on the Rhinos in tonight’s curtain raiser, writes Graham Henthorne.Indeed Chris Worrall made his debut off the bench whilst Morgan Knowles made his full and Langtree debut starting today’s game at loose forward after impressing off the bench last week at Wakefield. The Saints were in the game until the dying minutes and had a right to feel hard done to as the game turned on two contentious try scoring issues – Leeds winning 30-20.The Saints started brightly going ten points clear with two quick fire tries in the opening 15 minutes.Firstly, Lewis Galbraith stole the ball one on one from his opposite number on the Saints 40. He ran cross field before feeding on to Danny Richardson. He took it on, put Matty Fleming through with a delightful short ball and then watched the centre draw the full back before feeding his winger Dave Eccleston to go the final 20 for the score. From the kick off a good set, kick down field and great chase was rewarded with possession after a big hit from Knowles forced the knock on. Dave Hewitt picked up the pieces scoring to the left of the posts. That’s the time when experienced sides settle things and do the basics right. Unfortunately, with knock on from the kick off this Saints team invited the Rhinos straight back into it, and they’re too good a team to say no.Sustained pressure forced a knock on from the Saints but as the ball was moved left there was a suspicion of obstruction as the Rhinos opened their account. One of the Academy’s most improved players this season, Ross McCauley, made a break on the visitors 20 but his support got to him too late and the chance was lost. The Saints hung on to their lead until a minute before the break when a poor last tackle kick went out on the full and four tackles later the Rhinos took the lead. With Aaron Smith ruled out at half time with a jaw injury and Lewis Charnock withdrawn to go on 18th man duty for the First Team it was his deputy Dan Abram who dropped the high bomb to give the Rhinos an easy try to start the second period. And when they scored again collecting a neat chip over the line on the last it looked like the game could be going away from the Saints. But they dug deep and took the game to the visitors. Quick hands from Abram put Fleming away down the right wing and his overhead pass found Eccleston inside and the winger went in at the sticks to give Hewitt an easy conversion to put the Saints back in it.Then came the second contentious issue as big McAuley looked nailed on to score under the sticks as he slammed the ball down over the line. But the referee ruled he had been held up and the chance was gone.Undaunted the Saints continued to pile the pressure on to the visibly wilting Rhinos and on the third repeat set were rewarded with their fourth try of the night.McCauley went close again and from the play the ball it was spread right where Knowles crashed through the line for a deserved try. Crucially Hewitt missed the goal but the Saints were back within one score. The Saints had the Rhinos pinned in their own 20 only for an overenthusiastic Richardson to give away a penalty when another repeat set could have seen them crack. That was all the encouragement they needed as they worked their way downfield, forced the error and then punished the tiring Saints with the winning try two minutes from time.Knowles, McCauley, Phil Atherton and Olly Davies were good for the Saints for whom a tad more direction would have seen the unbeaten record continue.Match Summary:Saints:Tries: Dave Hewitt, David Eccleston 2, Morgan Knowles.Goals: Lewis Charnock, Dave Hewitt.Leeds:Tries: Ben White, Robbie Ward, Josh Walters, Brad England, Ben Frankland.Goals: Jordan Lilley 5.Half Time: 10-12Full Time: 20-30Teams:Saints:1. Their charge up the table was checked somewhat by

first_imgTheir charge up the table was checked somewhat by Hull FC on Friday but Justin Holbrook insists that his side just needs to move on and refocus on the trip to Headingley.“It was a disappointing game against Hull but we need to move on,” he said. “We were the poorer of the two sides but in saying that a 50 metre goal separated the teams.“We played well last time at Leeds but we didn’t get the win. We couldn’t get much to go our way in that game – we lost Matty Smith early and lost Jon Wilkin to a sinbin. We have to play well enough so that doesn’t come into play.“It will be a tough game for us with the event around the South Stand, but they are coming off a loss too. Their playing group will be hurting a fair deal.”On the injury front, Holbrook says Adam Swift will have a scan on a shoulder injury sustained in the first few minutes of the Reserves’ win over Wigan.Luke Douglas is also touch and go for the trip to Leeds.“Hopefully Adam’s injury isn’t too bad,” he added. “He has been out injured and then he comes back and hurts his shoulder. Luke trained earlier in the week so we will see how he gets on.“We have missed him. He does a lot of work that goes unnoticed in the middle and that stands out more when you have a tight game like Friday.“We will have to be on our game to beat Leeds. They are unpredictable; we just have to be ready to work hard.“If we do that then we will be ok.”Tickets for Friday’s game remain on sale from the Ticket Office at the Totally Wicked Stadium, by calling 01744 455 052 or online here.last_img read more

Balanced Towson tops Seahawks

UNCW makes the 40-minute drive over to Newark, Del., to play Delaware’s Blue Hens on Sunday at 2 p.m.“They got some wide open looks early in the game and that got them started,” said C.B. McGrath, UNCW’s first-year head coach. “They’re obviously better shooters than they’ve shown. We played better defensively in the second half, but they were making step-back three’s. If someone wants to shoot step back three’s against us and make them, more power to them.“We just didn’t have our normal activity level in our zone that we’ve had in the last few games and that enabled them to get some open looks.”Related Article: Middle schoolers build weather stations at annual Girls in Technology summitSenior guard Jordon Talley of UNCW became the 24th player in the program’s history score 1,000 points when he drained a three-pointer from the right corner with 8:11 remaining in the first half.  The Richmond, Va., product wound up with 14 points and now has 1,009 points in 107 career appearances, including three regular season CAA championships and a pair of CAA Tournament crowns.Towson senior guard Mike Morsell led all players with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting and was one of six Tigers in double digits. Towson then took control. The Tigers grabbed the lead for good on a driving layup by Key on the next possession and Morsell added a triple on the right wing to give Towson a 20-16 edge with just over 12 minutes left in the opening frame. The Tigers came out hot and made eight of their first 10 field goal attempts on their home floor.UNCW still trailed, 31-25, when Talley keyed a mini-run that brought the Seahawks within a point. Talley sank a trifecta in the right corner to tighten the deficit to 31-28, surpassing the 1,000-point milestone, and Cacok added a hook shot on the right baseline to narrow the lead to 31-30 with 7:10 left. But Towson used an 8-0 rally in the last four minutes of the first half to take a 10-point cushion into the break. So proud to be part of the #ScottishSix who created this opportunity. Lets get it to 5 million! #Brexit #PutitothePeople https://t.co/Ogiu3tru9b— Joanna Cherry QC MP (@joannaccherry) March 23, 2019From Thursday, the petition had hit the 1 million signature mark and finally shooting up to 3 million during Friday afternoon. The petition now sits at 4.2 million signatures and growing. It is calculated that around 2,000 people were signing the petition every minute.By constituency, Bristol West, Hornsey, Brighton Green and Wood Green in London have the highest number of signatures. This petition is closely followed by a previous call in 2016 for a second EU referendum if the vote to Leave or Remain in the EU was registered as less than 60%. This petition had gained over 4.15 million signatures. The third place goes to a petition which was signed in order to stop the US President Donald Trump from making his official state visit to the UK. This had the support of 1.9 million people.Contrasting the support of the petition to revoke Article 50, is a pro-Brexit petition which has called for the UK to exit the EU without a deal by the original Brexit date of March 2019.‘We are wasting Billions of pounds of taxpayers money trying to negotiate in a short space of time. Leaving the EU in March 2019 will allow the UK good time to negotiate more efficiently. The EU will be more eager to accept a deal on our terms having lost a major partner.’ This had received around 460,000 signatures as of today.Something fishyThere have been some conspiracies surrounding the popularity of the petition with some suggesting that there could be being ‘hijacked by bots’ when it was found that a number of the signatures were from entities outside of the UK.The Petitions Committee had responded this claim saying that they could confirm that 96% of those signing the petition were indeed registered in the UK.In an explanation of the situation, they said that signatures from UK citizens overseas were still valid.Over 4.1 million sign petition to cancel BrexitThe Revoke Article 50 petition which is calling out to cancel Brexit, is set to break the record for most popular petition to date on Saturday as it has just surpassed the 4.1 million mark. The petition is stating “The government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is the will of the people. We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now for remaining in the EU. A people’s vote may not happen, so vote now.”Petitions webpage experiencing technical difficultiesSince last Wednesday, the UK Government and Parliament petitions webpage needed to be restored a number of times due to the high influx of people using the site.Revoke Article 50 began trending on Twitter soon after the UK Prime Minister, Theresa May’s speech on Wednesday. Over 600,000 signed the petition by Thursday morning with number continuously increasing reaching over 4,000,000 signatures on Saturday morning. It is now very likely that it will take over from the 2016 petition calling for a second referendum should the winning vote and turnout not meet a certain threshold which is still the most popular petition to date with 4.2 million signatures.Celebrities and personalities declare their support Various celebrities and personalities ranging from politics, to academia and show business called on their followers to support the petition.Nicola Sturgeon is urging people to sign the petition if they are frustrated with the PM that “is just not listening”An issue as big and important as Brexit should not come down to petitions – that said, if you are frustrated that the PM is just not listening, you can sign here. https://t.co/XpZGrFBfhg— Nicola Sturgeon (@NicolaSturgeon) March 21, 2019whilst Professor Brian Cox, appeal sounds tinged with frustration following Theresa May’s speech on Wednesday.I’ve signed this petition to revoke A50 and deal with the consequences afterwards – referendum, election, whatever. I have no idea whether these things do any good but after May’s astonishingly irresponsible speech this evening I’ll give anything a go. https://t.co/1XuQW3vuve— Brian Cox (@ProfBrianCox) March 20, 2019 “ I would still advocate remaining” – Gibraltar’s Chief Minister Meanwhile, Fabian Picardo, Gibraltar’s Chief minister believes that The UK and Gibraltar specifically are better off in the EU and that the Brexit referendum results is a product of people being mislead. He also said that Gibraltar has accepted the referendum results and is ready for any outcome. More than 2 million passengers passed through airport in winter

This registered a 5.9% growth when compared to the same months the year before. This increase in movement of passengers was observed in parallel with the 8.1% increase in airplane movement and an increase of 7.6% available spaces for flights. The seat load factor (SLF) for this season was registered at 76%.Malta International Airport stated that a better schedule for winter flights was a factor in attaining these results. Alan Borg, CEO of MIA, said that gaining these results was a success for the target of Malta becoming a tourist destination even in the winter season. Borg also thanked all the team of MIA.Which countries were the most popular? The statement describes how the top five markets for the airport, excluding Germany (-2.9%), registered growth. In the meantime, the United Kingdom and Italy both saw a small increase of 0.3% and 3.3% respectively. However, countries such as France and Spain contributed to a large percentage of the growth, both registering a growth of 14.7% and 63.1% respectively. More destinations which showed a large number of flights were Slovakia, Portugal, and Estonia. These results can be attributed to the fact that direct flights to Bratislava, Porto and Lisbon, and Tallinn were used for the first time last winter.March registered an increase in passenger movement of 1.3%. This low increase is principally due to the fact that there was an advantage last year as the Easter holidays were experienced in March. The airport is awaiting more productive workdays ahead, since the summer schedule is in the near future.WhatsApplast_img read more
