Ind vs Eng: Team India skips envoy’s dinner for MSD event

first_imgPost the big loss at the Lord’s Test, Team India was in for more flak. But this time for off-field reasons.Apparently, Team India had failed to attend a reception thrown by the Indian high commissioner on July 18 in London. The move didn’t go down too well with the high commission and the matter was duly reported to the Ministry of External Affairs.Besides as per Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rules, a touring Indian side has to accept invitations for such occasions.Nalin Surie, the High Commissioner, had to then hurriedly abandon the planned event.Incidentally, the players didn’t attend the function as skipper MS Dhoni had planned a charity event on the same evening at a posh London hotel. The event saw Dhoni’s World Cup winning bat being auctioned and the proceeds of the same were helped to raise funds for Sakshi Foundation – the NGO run by the India skipper’s wife Sakshi.Worst about 100 invitation cards had already been distributed for the high commissioner’s reception, which was intended to be a get-together for over 200 people on the lawns of his residence at Kensington Palace Gardens.last_img
