Derek Jeter

first_imgDerek Jeter of the New York Yankees is now officially retired.  The perennial all-star was born in New Jersey in 1974 and spent all of his 20 major league seasons with the New York Yankees.  There are many things you can say about Jeter, but the most telling one is that all of his headlines were about baseball and never about something suspicious.  This is quite rare in pro sports these days. Here are some of his career numbers.  His total will show he hit over 300 for his career, 260+ home runs, and over 1,300 RBI’s.  Add to this the fact that he played 2,740 games, scored 1,900+ runs, and he has an astounding 3,460 hits.  There are 3 players in major league history who have numbers like these.   Besides Jeter, the other 2 are Pete Rose and Cal Ripken, Jr.Cal Ripken, Jr., was a first-ballot Hall of Famer.  Pete Rose should have been, and Jeter will certainly be a first-round pick.  It will be hard to find another modern player who will accomplish these same statistics.last_img
