He sustained his kick and that made the difference. Eddie won the race. He flicks his ears up a lot when he knows he’s open; I put my feet up ‘alligator’ style because I’m not sure which way he’s going.  He responds so well to my hand gestures and when I encourage him to go, he just explodes. Spurs in crisis with Euro humiliation, sulking Poch & Levy’s transfer policy

first_imgTOTTENHAM are descending into crisis – just five months after one of their greatest nights.Mauricio Pochettino’s side crashed to a 7-2 Champions League humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich as their season took another turn for the worse.6 Spurs crashed out of the Carabao Cup to League Two Colchester – a sign all is not right at the clubCredit: Rex FeaturesThat stunning home loss came just a week after the club were sent tumbling out of the Carabao Cup by League Two Colchester after a team packed full of stars failed to produce the goods. That loss means one of their best chances of silverware has gone for the season, and with the Premier League already disappearing over the distance before the clocks have even gone back, an air of gloom is rapidly dropping over their sparkling new stadium. It is a far cry from the amazing night which saw Lucas Moura’s late goal against Ajax seal a place in the Champions League final. From that dazzling height, all of a sudden the murmurs of discontent are rumbling around North London.A string of problems combine to form a dangerous mix which could undo all the good work the club has done.Poch has turned into JoseIn targeting Mauricio Pochettino in the first place, Daniel Levy knew he was getting one of the best young managers with a point to prove and gave him a platform to build. The problem is, Pochettino has fulfilled his potential and is now established as a top manager in world football, and is making the demands of someone with an ego which matches that status. From suggesting before the Champions League final he could walk away if they win, to constantly sniping about the club’s transfer strategy through pre-season, the Argentine has mirrored the kind of behaviour we saw from Jose Mourinho at Manchester United a year ago.6 Mauricio Pochettino has gone from potential to a proven top class manager – and is making the demands of his board to matchCredit: AFP or licensorsA boss certain of his standing, flexing his muscles and demanding the backing he believes he needs to be able to deliver the Premier League.Poch didn’t get it – and is now locked in something of a power struggle knowing his ultimate card to play is walking away. There will be no shortage of takers, and he knows it.Especially with Real Madrid and Manchester United hardly in a solid position with their current managers. He wants, actually needs, to win trophies now and is no longer willing to play the patient game. The Spurs players are not stupidContrast the build up to the Champions League final in Madrid between the two sides.Liverpool approached it knowing they belonged at that level, Tottenham almost just happy to be there. Not for one minute do the Spurs players not want to achieve success, but they can also see when they are batting above their average.MOST READ IN FOOTBALLTHROUGH ITRobbie Keane reveals Claudine’s father was ’50-50′ in coronavirus battleTOP SELLERGavin Whelan has gone from League of Ireland to David Beckham’s InstagramExclusiveRIYAD RAIDMan City’s Riyad Mahrez has three luxury watches stolen in £500,000 raidPicturedAN EYEFULMeet Playboy model and football agent Anamaria Prodan bidding to buy her own clubI SAW ROORodallega saw Rooney ‘drinking like madman’ & Gerrard ‘on bar dancing shirtless’NEXT STEPJonny Hayes set to move to English Championship having been let go by CelticREF RELEASEDChampions League ref Vincic released by cops after arrest in prostitution raidKEANE DEALEx Man United youth ace David Jones says Roy Keane negotiated a contract for himThe London club have not made the step from very good hopefuls to being a major force either domestically or on the continent, and the squad is reminded that week-in week-out just by looking at Liverpool and Manchester City. They talk of how good those two clubs are, of aspiring to be able to compete. That is very different from believing they can compete over a 38-game season. After Madrid they will have expected a summer where the club invested to really give themselves a chance to make that step.Instead, despite breaking the club record to buy Tanguy Ndembele for £65million, they flattered to deceive and did nothing to suggest the board wanted to make up ground on the rivals.6The squad knew how far behind they were last season. And this season they know they are still way back. They are not stupid. Sooner or later, that acceptance of not being good enough works its way through to performances.A clear split in the campWhy is it that so many of Tottenham’s biggest players have openly tried to get out of the club?Kieran Trippier hinted at issues behind the scenes when he spoke of his reasons for joining Atletico Madrid in the summer – swiftly rebutted by Spurs. But when fellow senior stars Danny Rose, Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen also want out, it is hard to believe all is well in the dressing room.Rose, an England international in his prime, was ready to walk away from the Champions League finalists and a top four side to join Watford.ACCA WITH LADBROKES Pick up a whole load of acca features to help you land the big oneEriksen spent most of the summer hoping to get away, and has spent the majority of the campaign playing as if he doesn’t want to be there.Pochettino spoke in pre-season of his frustrations that his plans were being hampered by not knowing which players he would still have available and which players would leave.Ultimately no-one left – but everyone knows they will be at the end of the season. So you have half the side looking to build for the future, and half the side knowing it doesn’t really matter because they are on the move regardless. And when the tough questions start getting asked after poor performances, the doubts start to grow whether some players are pulling their weight.6 Harry Kane is one of the world’s best strikers, but some Spurs fans believe he does not best suit the systemCredit: Rex FeaturesDoes Kane suit the best system? When you’ve got one of the world’s best strikers in your squad, you have half a chance. But there is a school of thought that Tottenham are better off without him. It’s a bizarre situation when a player of Kane’s standing can be questioned but some believe the rest of the side click more without him playing. The England captain is such a figurehead, play tends to revolve around him sometimes to the detriment of others like Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura around him. When Kane is missing, Son and Moura can make more destructive runs into spaces not normally open to them when their captain is playing.A comparison of the stats in all competitions last season suggest Tottenham fair better with the striker around – a 60 per cent winning record compared to 50 per cent. But the average goals scored are almost identical, and certainly the side has appeared to flow with more freedom when Kane is not there.Levy’s belligerence is holding Spurs backPutting it simply, Daniel Levy has been a fantastic chairman for Tottenham. He highlighted Pochettino as the man to take the club forward and given him time to build a squad. The businessman then delivered the wonderful new stadium which is the envy of the rest of the country. And he bought and sold with such ferocity that Spurs often under-paid for players and charged over the odds to buying clubs for their own stars. The trouble is, Spurs have arrived at the level where the games have to stop.Levy has to accept when he knocks on the door of other boardrooms, they are going to demand big money for their best players and he will now have to cough up.Latest Tottenham newsHARRY ALL FOUR ITKane admits Spurs must win EIGHT games to rise into Champions League spotGossipALL GONE PETE TONGVertonghen wanted by host of Italian clubs as long Spurs spell nears endBELOW PARRSpurs suffer blow with Parrott to miss Prem restart after appendix operationPicturedSHIRT STORMNew Spurs 2020/21 home top leaked but angry fans slam silver design as ‘awful”STEP BY STEP’Jose fears for players’ welfare during restart as stars begin ‘pre-season’KAN’T HAVE THATVictor Osimhen keen on Spurs move but only if they sell Kane this summerNo more scrimping and saving, trying to slash an extra £5m off a fee. Culture key to Warriors success

first_imgOn March 10th 1995 a New Zealand rugby league legacy was born. The Warriors make history running through a lit Mount Smart Stadium tunnel for the very first time.Among those who ran out on that historic day was a 23-year-old Stephen Kearney. Now 23 years on, the team he now coaches will begin their season on the exact same date in Perth with an objective to get the club back to winning ways.”Certainly the hard work that the boys have put in during the preseason is about putting it all together for round one.” says Stephen Kearney.”We’re coming up against a challenging side so it’s about the expectation of piecing the improvements and working on it on Saturday.”Kearney has been busy in the off-season signing New Zealand internationals Adam Blair and Tohu Harris. He’s named a 21-man squad which includes seven debutants, in the hope of rectifying last year’s disappointing results. But former Kiwis coach Graham Lowe says it will take more than a few fresh faces to turn things around in 2018.The Warriors lost their last nine games of the season last year and Lowe says a lack of club culture is stopping the club from gaining credibility.”Culture is about the expectation, how everyone treats results, accountability.” says Lowe.”It’s not about how you do your hair, it’s about what it takes to be a good footy club and that’s lacking at the Warriors.”The Warriors are yet to win in Western Australia after nine attempts, and an unsuccessful result this weekend will be added pressure on Kearney’s coaching role.”When you coach it’s always your last chance it’s one of those jobs where you’re measured by your last result.” says Lowe.”Blind Freddy can tell that the Warriors performances in recent years have been woeful, that would’ve been praying on Stephen’s mind.””it’s up to him to make the appropriate changes.”Warriors stalwart Sir Peter Leitch A-K-A the Mad Butcher has kept the faith during the lean years and says he’s liked what he’s seen during the off-season.”They have just got to do the work on the work on the field, simple as that. ” says Leitch.”They’ve got a new CEO, some new players, new fitness trainer – I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.”Kick off against South Sydney is at 9pm (NZT), the Warriors first home game of the season is against the Gold Coast Titans next weekend.last_img read more

Ansu Fati is diluted

first_imgThe arrival of the Danish striker and Setien’s determined commitment to Arturo vidal as third striker they have penalized the young Barça player who in the first six games of Setién started playing an average of 81 minutes per game. That average, in the last three games has collapsed to 4 per game. The turning point could be found in Barcelona’s visit to San Mamés in the copera tie. There, Ansu was replaced in the 57th minute of the match and then, in the following match he did not play a minute in the field of Betis. Later he played at a good level 85 minutes against Getafe and from there he disappeared from the coach’s plans, a circumstance that looked clear in the Bernabeu. The arrival of Setién on the bench in Barcelona was received with great joy by the defenders of the quarry players participating more in the first team of Barcelona. The facts seemed to prove them right, because Ansu Fati He immediately consolidated himself as a starter for the Cantabrian coach and played many minutes … until something broke and The 17-year-old Guinean has been diluted to play testimonial minutes. 31 LaLiga Santander* Data updated as of March 3, 2020 In the Santiago Bernabéu, Fati was a substitute and only went out desperate when Madrid was already going aft in search of victory to try to change something by playing nine minutes. Worse was what happened in Naples when Setien He used it as a change to waste time playing the three minutes of the discount. Of course it came from not contesting a single minute before the Eibar in the match in which he debuted Martin Braithwaite.last_img read more

Pol Llonch, best player of the Eredivisie in January and February

first_img45 recoveries of @pol_llonch in just over a minute. 🐙If stealing balls were a crime, the Spaniard of Willem II would take time behind bars. 🕵️‍♂️⚽️– Migrants of the Ball (@migrantesbalon) February 5, 2020Llonch, who in an AS daily interview confessed to believing he had “a sixth sense to intuit where the play is going to end,” has already forgotten his frustrated return to Girona, concentrating all his efforts to finish the Eredivisie in European positions. “This award is for all the work the team has done so far. Thank you for all the people who help us every day! It gives us extra power to continue working the last months of the competition,” Pol Llonch wrote on social networks . During the first two months of 2020, Willem II played seven league games in which he won three wins, two draws and two losses. The best footballer of the Eredivisie is Spanish. He has read well. Neither Tadic nor Stengs nor Berghuis. Not even Ziyech. The Dutch newspaper AD awarded this award to the Catalan midfielder Pol Llonch, whose performances with Willem II earned him the prize for the best footballer in the competition in the months of January and February. The former Espanyol or Girona is key in the center of the field of Tilburg, who currently occupy the fifth position in the Netherlands First Division and fight to play in Europe next year.Llonch, who arrived at Willem in 2018 after season and a half at Wisla Krakow, is already one of the most valued midfielders of the Eredivisie. The Spanish recover an average of 12 balls per game and is the fifth player who has completed more interceptions this season in the Eredivisie. He is also the second player who has passed the most passes (38) and 103 of his 162 innings have had successful results. The ‘Pitbull’, as he is nicknamed in Tilburg, is the third player with the most fouls (52), but also one of the most received (36). It is not surprising that Willem II closed in band when Girona tried to sign it last January: the Catalan club reached an agreement with the player, but was not able to satisfy the economic pretensions of the Dutch entity.last_img read more
