Mountain View team wins BPA Regional Science Bowl

first_imgA team from Vancouver’s Mountain View High School won the nation’s largest regional science bowl Saturday for the second straight year.Mountain View Team 1 finished in first place at the high school division of the BPA Regional Science Bowl 2013. Catlin Gabel High School Team 1 and Jesuit High School Team 1, both of Portland, came in second and third place, respectively, in the competition at the University of Portland.“This year, it felt like we knew what we’re doing,” Rohith Nagari, a senior and the captain of Mountain View, said in a press release issued by the BPA. He said the team relied more heavily on the particular strengths of individual members as it proceeded into the deeper rounds of the competition. Mountain View High School will now move on to compete, all expenses paid, to the Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C., April 25-29. Also advancing to the nation competition is Team Atom of Bellevue, which finished in first place at the middle school division of the BPA Regional Science Bowl 2013 on Jan. 26.Begun in 1992, the BPA Regional Science Bowl is one component of the Bonneville Power Administration’s community and education program. With 66 teams representing Western Washington and Central and Western Oregon, the competition is the largest regional science bowl in the nation.last_img read more
