Sheriff’s deputies from a special High Impact Team unit assigned to Lancaster from outside the Antelope Valley made 31 arrests last week in a targeted crime-fighting effort law enforcement officials say isn’t going away anytime soon. The targeted effort, which involved an unspecified number of HIT deputies, followed a March20-23 saturation patrol that saw 40 out-of-area deputies descend on central Lancaster in what law enforcement officials called a “saturation patrol.” HIT deputies seeking known gang members and others thought to be involved in criminal activity arrested 14 suspected felons and 17 suspected of misdemeanors in last week’s sweep, said Palmdale sheriff’s station Lt. Bobby Denham, who’s involved in coordinating the valleywide crime-fighting effort. Two known gang members were arrested in last week’s patrol, and eight others were cited, Denham said. In the two weeks since the HIT deputies were summoned to the Antelope Valley, they have made 132 arrests – 52 for felonies and 80 for misdemeanors – and issued 68 citations, Denham said. Last week’s patrol netted five arrests on felony narcotics charges, one for possession of illegal weapons and one for driving a stolen vehicle, Denham said. Denham said the ongoing effort will include Palmdale and surrounding unincorporated areas. “I think we’re sending a message to the criminals that the Antelope Valley is taking a stand and the Sheriff’s Department is taking a stand to reduce crime, and that it’s an ongoing effort,” Denham said. Will Roberto Mancini go if Manchester City don’t win the title? Will Andre Villas-Boas survive at Chelsea? India vs Australia: MS Dhoni gives us a lot of confidence, says Shikhar Dhawan

first_imgIndia will continue to target Australia’s under-pressure openers Alex Carey and Aaron Finch as they seek to add a one-day series win to their first ever Test series victory in the third and final match in Melbourne on Friday.Carey and Finch’s best opening partnership in the first two matches of the series is the 20 runs they achieved in Adelaide on Tuesday.Carey, the team’s vice-captain, has scored a total of 42 runs while captain Finch has tallied just 12 and been bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in both games of the series, which is locked at 1-1.Finch was also dropped from the Test squad after he struggled in the that series and India have concentrated on the 32-year-old, who has 11 one-day international centuries and two in Twenty20 internationals.”We respect that Finch is a great player … we make sure our guard is up always,” Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan told reporters on Thursday.”The boys must have seen his weakness and they are implementing their plans quite nicely. They’re not giving him singles that easily or even boundary options.”Once you’re creating that pressure to a batsman, especially in limited overs, that batsman is going to do something extra or take more risk to rotate the strike or to score more runs. That’s where we’re having the opportunity.”Dhawan added that the pressure the bowlers were placing on the Australians at the top of the order meant they were not capitalising on the fielding restrictions during the first 10-over power-play.Australia slumped to 41-2 in 9.5 overs in the first game in Sydney, while they were 38-2 after 10 overs in the second match in Adelaide, although that total was only boosted by scoring 11 runs in the 10th.advertisement”Bhuvi (Kumar) is very experienced as well as (Mohammed) Shami,” Dhawan said. “That’s why in the first 10 overs we have been dominating.”Dhawan also said that it was great to see MS Dhoni performing well in both the ODIs of their ongoing three-match series and added that he is happy that the wicket-keeper batsman is getting back in touch. Dhawan also praised right-hand batsman Dinesh Kartik who played a knock of 25 runs off 24 balls in the last ODI against Australia.”It was great to see a good team performance in the last one day match against Australia. The way Dhoni played in both the games is really great. I am very happy that Dhoni is getting his touch back. A player of his stature, who plays the game with so much calmness, gives so much confidence to other batsmen. It is very important for us.”Even Dinesh (Karthik) played a very good knock in the last game. So the good thing is that we got all fit and mature players which make us a strong batting unit. We have been consistent in our performance over the past few years and hopefully, we will continue performing well in coming years,” he said.India will be aiming to clinch the ODI series while taking on Australia in their final match of the series. Dhawan admitted that if they won, it would be a good achievement for the team adding that they are looking forward to the match.”It will be a big final tomorrow. It is going to be an interesting game for both the teams. We are looking forward to an exciting game tomorrow. It (the victory) will mean a lot to us. It is always good to come here and win. If we win tomorrow, it will be a big achievement for us. Of course, we are going to value it and cherish it,” Dhawan said. One of the main concerns for the Indian team during the first two matches of the ODI series has been the spot of the third pacer. India tried Khaleel Ahmed in the first match and replaced him with Mohammed Siraj in the second ODI but none of them could make an impact.Reflecting on the same, Dhawan said that there is nothing to be worried about as they are youngsters and would take time to adjust to the conditions.”There is nothing to worry about. They (Siraj and Ahmed) are young blokes. They just came in. Of course, we back them. That’s how they are going to learn when they play against a good side. If they go for runs, it is when they lift themselves up and think more about their game and strategy. That’s how they will become more mature players,” he said.Talking about the Australian team, Dhawan stated that they are definitely missing banned cricketers, Steve Smith and David Warner. He, however, added that the team is going pretty well without them as well.advertisement”Australia has got a well balanced side and Finch is a great batsman. I feel the presence of David Warner and Steve is missing in the side. They are legends of their country and big cricket players in cricket world but they are doing well,” Dhawan concluded. Also Read | Dhoni, Shaw and Bencic with Federer shine in #10YearChallengeAlso Read | Rishabh Pant for World Cup 2019? Ohio State Golf Club provides a fair but tough challenge

Challenging but fair. It is a phrase that a professor might use to describe that last calculus test, but it also happens to fit the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club. The Scarlet Course, the club’s main attraction, re-opened on April 2 after being shuttered since November for the winter season.Topping out at more than 7,400 yards from the back tees, the course is often compared with the marquee country clubs of central Ohio.“Some people say it’s just as difficult as a Scioto Country Club or Muirfield Village,” said the club’s assistant golf professional Ben Mersy. “It’s pretty forgiving off the tees. The bunkers will get you, and the greens can be pretty tough.”Mersy added, “Overall it’s a fair but tough challenge.”The Scarlet Course was originally completed in 1938 and saw a major renovation between 2005 and 2006 under the guidance of former OSU golfer and PGA Tour legend Jack Nicklaus.A frequent user of the course, Daron Prater, a second-year in engineering, vouched for the venue’s difficulty.“The greens are nearly impossible,” he said. “You have to leave (the ball) below the hole or else you won’t stand a chance.”For those looking for an easier course, Mersy said the OSU Golf Club is still the place to go.“We have two golf courses here, which is unique to central Ohio,” he said. The Gray Course, completed in 1940, tops out at 5,800 yards.Prater said that the Scarlet Course is beautiful.“There are some really nice views, it’s a very scenic course,” Prater said. “It gives you a great view of Ohio.”The course is also known for its pristine condition, Mersy said.“The condition of the course is great all year round,” he said. “We have a superintendent and his crew that do a wonderful job.”Mersy also said, though, that the Gray Course is just as nice as the Scarlet.“They take just as good of care on Gray as they do on Scarlet,” Mersy said. “(But) Gray is a much easier golf course for beginner to moderate golfers.”The club tries to keep the Gray course open throughout the winter if the weather permits, said Marc Lucas, the club’s general manager.Mersy said having two courses isn’t its most notable quality. The Scarlet Golf Course was ranked No. 7 on “Golfweek’s” list of the best college course of 2012.The OSU Golf Club is not only one of the best in the nation, but Mersy said that it also is one of the only establishments of its kind in Ohio as one of the few university-owned and operated clubs.Mersey said that Kent State has Windmill Lakes Golf Club, but the facility is not owned and operated by the university.Brian Kelly, OSU Golf Club’s head golf professional, said there is only one other college-operated course in the state.“The only other one that’s around is Bridgeview, which is owned by Columbus State Community College now,” he said.Bridgeview Golf Course is a nine-hole course, while OSU’s courses both have 18 holes.OSU Golf Club hosts a multitude of tournaments at all levels. Beyond some of the Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournaments and various collegiate competitions, Mersy said the club also hosts an event for the PGA Web.com Tour and is now part of the PGA Tour Qualifying Series. The club will be hosting the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship from Sept. 9 to 15.OSU Golf Club is located at 3605 Tremont Road. For OSU students, a day on the Scarlet Course costs $33 and on the Gray Course is $20. read more

He fills you with confidence no matter what decision is made. We all trust him as a group and hopefully it’s the right decision in the long run.
