Wasps would lead 31-28 when Taqele Naiyaravoro scored a late winner. The teams are incredibly close in the table too, with Saints in fourth and Wasps fifth. So it’s time to renew acquaintances. There will be some new and familiar faces on show for Saints, with Nick Auterac and Nick Isiekwe joining up while Jamie Gibson has signed a short-term deal to remain with the side. Wasps have a new signing too in Ryan Mills, though they have lost Nizaam Carr, Charlie Matthews and Ashley Johnson. Northampton has lost that man Reinach to Montpellier. It is worth noting that stalwart back-row Tom Wood is unavailable for some time as he recovers from a pulmonary embolism – though he has ambitions to feature in play-offs later in the season. The form books are likely to mean nothing after such a lengthy hiatus due to Covid-19, however, Wasps were on a roll before the break, winning their last three games on the bounce. It was a very different picture for Saints who had lost four of their last six ties.It should be a fascinating bout to wrap up the first weekend of Premiership Rugby’s return – and below you can see all of the ways you could watch the action from wherever you are.Northampton: George Furbank; Harry Mallinder, Fraser Dingwall, Piers Francis, Ahsee Tuala; Dan Biggar, Alex Mitchell; Francois van Wyk, Mike Haywood, Paul Hill, David Ribbans, Api Ratuniyarawa, Courtney Lawes, Lewis Ludlam, Teiman Harrison (captain).Replacements: Sam Matavesi, Danny Hobbs-Awoyemi, Owen Franks, Alex Coles, JJ Tonks, Hhenry Taylor, Matt Proctor, Taqele Naiyaravoro.Wasps: Matteo Minozzi; Zach Kibirige, Malakai Fekitoa, Jimmy Gopperth, Josh Bassett; Jacob Umaga, Dan Robson; Ben Harris, Tommy Taylor, Kieran Brookes, Joe Launchbury (captain), Will Rowlands, Jack Willis, Thomas Young, Brad Shields.Replacements: Gabriel Oghre, Tom West, Jeff Toomaga-Allen, James Gaskell, Sione Vailanu, Ben Vellacott, Lima Sopoaga, Ryan Mills. How to watch Northampton v Wasps from outside your countryIf you’re abroad, but still want to watch your local coverage of Worcester v Gloucester, you can do so by using a VPN – Virtual Private Network.VPNs allow you to get around any geo-blocking by changing your IP address so you appear in a different location and can watch the same legal Premiership live stream you would at home. Our friends at TechRadar have tested hundreds of VPN and recommend ExpressVPN, which is easy to use, has strong security features and allows you to watch on several devices at once, including smart TVs and phones, iPads, tablets, PCs and Macs.Plus, ExpressVPN comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Why Canadian Snowbirds Should Consider Apopka in Florida for Their Retirements

first_img Please enter your name here You have entered an incorrect email address! Please enter your email address here The Anatomy of Fear TAGSapopkaCanadaCanadiansfloridaHomesReal EstateretirementTaxesTemperatureWinter Previous article7 Must-Do Things for Your Aquatic Plants to SurviveNext articleApopka gardeners can celebrate Plant of the Month: Crossandra Denise Connell RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR By Mackey WallaceCanadian snowbirds looking to flock south to escape Canada’s cold winters have traditionally chosen Florida and Arizona for their winter homes. Apopka, a suburb of Orlando that is less than 20 miles north of the city and surrounded by Lake Apopka and Wekiwa Springs State Park, is an increasingly attractive location for Canadians to spend their winter months.LocationWith U.S. Route 441 running through Apopka, along with many toll roads connecting you to Orlando, day trips are a great way to spend the winter months. Located in Central Florida, Apopka is a quick drive from major attractions and tourist destinations. With only a 30 minute drive to Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando, and Sea World Orlando, Apopka makes a great home base for any theme park fans. Cape Canaveral is also about an hour away.If you’re keen on enjoying Florida’s warm waters, Daytona Beach is a one hour drive away, while Tampa and Clearwater are just under two hours away. However, water temperatures do cool down over the winter, with an average water temperature of just over 18°C degrees (64°F) in January and February.HomesWhy choose a home in central inland Florida rather than on the coast? Coastal homes are much more expensive, while homes in Apopka remain affordable. You also won’t have to worry about storm surges, and inland areas are slightly less impacted by hurricanes compared to coastal areas.According to Redfin, the median home price in Apopka in 2021 was $325,000, lower than the national median home price of $370,000. This also makes Apopka a much more affordable alternative compared to other snowbird destinations, such as Phoenix, Arizona at $375,000 or Scottsdale, Arizona at $715,000.With the average price of a home in Canada approaching $700,000, and prices in Toronto and Vancouver both well north of $1 million, Apopka homes are a bargain in comparison. For Canadians looking to buy a house in Florida, they might even be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) on their residence to help finance the purchase of a vacation property in Florida. Canadians can also get a mortgage from some Canadian banks, or can consider getting an U.S. mortgage for non-residents.If you’re not planning on staying in Florida for more than a few months each year, it might make more sense to rent a vacation rental rather than to purchase a home.TemperatureAverage daytime temperatures in Apopka during the winter are warm and relatively less rainy compared to Florida’s summer months. The average temperature of 21°C (70°F) in January and 22°C (71°F) in February makes Apopka a great escape for those looking to escape the snow and ice in Canada.Florida’s mild winters are also a great time to enjoy Florida’s attractions, compared to the summer months that can be particularly humid and rainy, with an average temperature of over 33°C (91°F).Ease of EntryCanadians can stay in the United States for up to six months per year, and they do not need to have a visitor or tourist visa to enter if they are a Canadian citizen and don’t intend on working in the US. This means that you can stay in your home in Florida from November to April without any visas required.A bill introduced in the Senate in 2019 would allow Canadian snowbirds to stay in the United States for up to 8 months, or 240 days. While that bill hasn’t been passed, it does show that there is political support and interest in allowing snowbirds to stay longer.Health CareOne thing that Canadians will have to consider is their provincial health care insurance coverage. Ontario residents need to be in Ontario for at least 153 days a year for them to keep their OHIP coverage. Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Quebec require you to be located within the province for at least 183 days. While your provincial health insurance plan may cover some medical costs, you may still need to consider getting snowbird travel insurance to supplement your coverage.TaxesThere’s no state income tax in Florida, but it is partially offset by higher property taxes. Canadian retirees won’t be able to take advantage of income tax savings, but they will be paying higher property taxes.Apopka is located in Orange County, which has an average property tax rate of 0.96%. In comparison, the property tax rate in Toronto is just under 0.6%, while Vancouver has a property tax rate of 0.3%.Canadians will also have to pay U.S. income tax on any capital gains if they sell their home in the United States. If you’re bringing your personal car to Florida from Canada and do not pay duties, you can only have your car in the United States for one-year, and you cannot sell your car in the U.S. Officially importing your car at the border to keep it in the U.S. permanently will mean that you will have to pay duties. Springbok World Cup winning icon James Small has died suddenly, aged 50

first_imgWednesday Jul 10, 2019 Springbok World Cup winning icon James Small has died suddenly, aged 50 Former Springbok wing James Small, a member of the 1995 Rugby World Cup winning squad, has died suddenly from a heart attack. The 50-year-old Small was rushed to hospital in Johannesburg on Tuesday night after suffering from a suspected heart attack.ADVERTISEMENTA prolific high school athlete and brilliant rugby player, Small was one of a few rare cases in South Africa who went on to make it to the top from a co-ed high school, Greenside High. His rise was rapid, making his debut for the Springboks against New Zealand in Johannesburg in 1992 and going on to play in 47 Tests until 1997. He scored 20 Test tries, with the last of those in his final match in the Green and Gold, against Scotland – a try which, at that stage, broke Danie Gerber’s Test record. In total, Small donned the Green and Gold 60 times, scoring 27 tries. He played Tests against New Zealand, Australia, Western Samoa, Fiji, France, Italy, Romania, England, Scotland, Argentina and the British & Irish Lions. In his provincial career, Small played for the Golden Lions (then Transvaal), Sharks (then Natal) and Western Province, appearing in Currie Cup finals for all three sides and lifting the coveted golden cup in the colours of the Sharks and WP, but never with the Golden Lions.Small was also hugely famous for being the winger tasked with marking Jonah Lomu in the 1995 Rugby World Cup Final. Lomu too, is no longer with us.Very sad to hear the news of former Springbok James Small – the man who , among other achievements, marked Jonah Lomu during South Africa’s victorious and iconic 1995 Rugby World Cup Final. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends and @Springboks— Brett Gosper (@brettgosper) July 10, 2019ADVERTISEMENTMr Mark Alexander, President of SA Rugby, passed on his condolences to Small’s family and friends.“James, as a member of the triumphant Rugby World Cup squad from 1995, will always have a special place in the hearts and minds of the South African public and we were devastated to hear of his passing,” said Mr Alexander. “He always played with the type of passion and courage that encapsulate what Springbok rugby stands for, and he lived his life in the same way.“At 50 years old, James Small died too young. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends during this very sad time.”ADVERTISEMENTIn recent years, Small turned to coaching, and assisted Robert du Preez at NWU-Pukke and the Leopards before joining Pirates in Johannesburg as assistant coach.Small is the fourth member of the Springbok squad from 1995 to pass away, after Kitch Christie (coach), Ruben Kruger (flank) and Joost van der Westhuizen (scrumhalf).May he rest in peace. TV reporter stabbed to death at home in Zacatecas state

first_img Reports July 31, 2014 – Updated on January 20, 2016 TV reporter stabbed to death at home in Zacatecas state Follow the news on Mexico NSO Group hasn’t kept its promises on human rights, RSF and other NGOs say RSF_en May 13, 2021 Find out more Organisation Help by sharing this information News to go further Reporters Without Borders is appalled to learn that Nolberto Herrera Rodríguez, a cameraman and reporter with Canal 9 TV news, was found murdered in his home in Guadalupe, in the north-central state of Zacatecas, on 29 July. He had been stabbed more than 20 times. He is the fourth journalist to be murdered this year in Mexico in a possible or proven connection with their work. The federal prosecutor’s office, which is investigating Herrera’s murder, seems to think it may be a crime of passion but the authorities have not ruled out a link with his work.“We urge the prosecutor in charge of the case to carry out a swift but thorough investigation. Given the large number of journalists who are threatened, attacked or murdered in connection with their work, especially outside the capital, it is essential that the possibility of a link to the victim’s work should be fully examined in this case,” said Camille Soulier, the head of the Reporters Without Borders Americas desk. Zacatecas is notorious as a drug-trafficking hub. Journalists are under constant pressure from both organized crime and the local authorities, with the result that censorship or self-censorship is common. The Zacatecas state government reached an agreement with certain local media in March 2013 for coverage of violent events to be limited “for the sake of our image.”Mexico is ranked 152nd out of 180 countries in the 2014 Reporters Without Borders press freedom index.center_img News 2011-2020: A study of journalist murders in Latin America confirms the importance of strengthening protection policies MexicoAmericas MexicoAmericas News April 28, 2021 Find out more May 5, 2021 Find out more Receive email alerts Reporter murdered in northwestern Mexico’s Sonora statelast_img read more

Indonesia’s parliament bans critical coverage of its members

first_img IndonesiaAsia – Pacific Protecting journalists Judicial harassmentFreedom of expression Follow the news on Indonesia News Indonesia’s parliament has amended the law that regulates itself, opening the way to criminal proceedings against journalists who “disrespect” its members (photo: Adek Berry / AFP). Reporters Without Borders (RSF) calls on Indonesia’s constitutional court to overturn an article in a new law under which anyone, including journalists, could be prosecuted and jailed if they “disrespect” the country’s parliamentarians, and which therefore clearly violates press freedom. August 21, 2020 Find out more March 20, 2018 – Updated on August 23, 2019 Indonesia’s parliament bans critical coverage of its members News Receive email alerts Help by sharing this information RSF_en to go furthercenter_img Melanesia: Facebook algorithms censor article about press freedom in West Papua News On eve of the G20 Riyadh summit, RSF calls for public support to secure the release of jailed journalists in Saudi Arabia Known as the MD3 Law, the new law regulating Indonesia’s legislative bodies took effect on 15 March, one month after President Jokowi refused to sign it on the grounds that it was a source of public disquiet. The president’s refusal did not, however, have the effect of vetoing the law.It is article 122 of the law that is a source of great concern to journalists and those who defend the freedom to inform, because it opens the way to criminal proceedings for any “criticism” or “disrespect” for parliament or its members.“Ill considered and poorly worded, this article makes it impossible for the fourth estate to cover parliamentary issues in an independent manner and represents a grave violation of the country’s constitution and the principle of the separation of powers,” said Daniel Bastard, the head of RSF’s Asia-Pacific desk. “We call on the constitutional court to lose no time in striking down this article, which poses a real threat to press freedom in Indonesia.”RSF supports the initiative taken by Indonesian civil society organizations, which referred the law to the constitutional court on the day it took effect. The law is all the more worrying because its vague wording does not define “disrespect” and sets no limit on the penalties for violations, allowing parliamentarians to interpret any critical media coverage as “disrespect” and impose punishments in a completely arbitrary manner. The law has taken effect against a backdrop of legislation that is getting more and more hostile towards press freedom, although this freedom is guaranteed in the Indonesian constitution, as amended in 2002. Amendments currently being drafted to the criminal code could also criminalize media criticism of the president and vice-president.Indonesia is ranked 124th out of 180 countries in RSF’s 2017 World Press Freedom Index.
